London, 11 February 2014: Harrods and Halcyon Gallery unveiled The Amber and Gold Chandelier by American artist, Dale Chihuly. The first ever commissioned piece of art by Harrods creates a magnificent statement in Harrods’ ground floor Grand Hall. Comprised of 1,400 hand-blown glass elements, the 16ft wide installation weighs 1900 lbs and took seven days to assemble on site.
“What makes the Chandeliers work for me is the massing of color,” says Chihuly. “If you take hundreds of pieces, put them together and shoot light through them, it is going to be something to look at. Then, you hang it in space and it becomes mysterious, defying gravity or seemingly out of place, like something you have never seen before.”
