About

Eurasian nomadic empires would often create works of art depicting intense fighting between carnivorous predators and passive herbivores, particularly to symbolise a specific time of year or ceremonial events and celebrations. The theme of this particular sculpture was borrowed from the mythology of the ancient nomads of the East and represents the changing of the seasons. The special dynamism and drama of this composition is characteristically specific of the so-called Scythian-Siberian animalism style. The artist created a tight and contrived space within which we see the struggle of titans, a cosmic battle between the two opposites, both whom would cease to exist without the other.
