We all experience childhood at some stage – that place where our ideas of beauty, kindness, and miracles stem from. Dashi’s artwork is often romantic, his compositions sometimes fantastic, but they are recognisable in the same way we might remember a childhood memory or a dream. Fantasy is based on the interaction between characters: the elegant and unwavering rider, the dialogue between her and the guardian-panther at the base of the sculpture, and the ornate dragon who claims a second seat atop her horse. The sculpture is almost musical and the figures seem to glide with easy movement. Dashi allows the viewer to imagine their own story behind the piece, still there is undeniable kindness, humanity and lyricism about the work.
