Spain NOW! the annual season of contemporary Spanish culture launches in London at Halcyon Gallery on 14th October. Now in its 3rd year, Spain NOW! brings to London a snapshot of the latest creative output of Spain, featuring a series of concerts, exhibitions and performances across London.
Halcyon Gallery, Bruton St, Mayfair hosts an 8 day exhibition as part of a special cultural project of the Frieze Art Fair programme. The evening of 14th October will showcase the work of contemporary Spanish painter Pedro Paricio, described by a leading critic as “one of the best, and freshest emerging artists to come out of Spain”, and a live multimedia performance by celebrated urban artist SUSO33, winner of the National Videoart award at PhotoEspaña 2010, www.suso33.com.
SUSO33 is known for making large-scale energetic drawings and portraits live, before an audience, which are recorded and web-hosted.
From 14th October onwards, Spain NOW! 2011 takes place all over London with a variety of exhibitions, events and performances, from DJ sessions to roundtable discussions. Some of the venues this year include Ibérica in Marylebone, the Leicester Square Theatre, the Cockpit Theatre and the versatile Spain NOW! pop-up space at the Gallery Soho. The festival features Spanish art, music, architecture, dance, literature, photography and cuisine, reflecting what’s best (and what’s next) on the Spanish arts scene this year.
Musician, Sr. Chinarro and Michelin star chef Nacho Mazano will also be taking part in the launch event at Halcyon Gallery on 14 October.
